New York (US) – While New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was busy attending the official celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the US, his wife, Rama Duwaji, attended a retreat titled ‘Plants of the Quran’, organised by ‘The Women’s Sanctuary’ in Spain. Not only this, but she is also scheduled to participate in another programme titled ‘Mary in the Quran’, to be held in Corsica, France, from 9th to 14th July. Following these developments, questions have been raised on social media asking, “Why did she choose this particular time for the trip?”

The visit has drawn criticism on social media, with many questioning the optics.

City Council member Joann Ariola said that

“Rama Duwaji’s decision to go on holiday instead of attending the celebrations in the US reflects her anti-American ideology.” City Council member Frank Morano also described it as an extremely disappointing incident. The Mayor’s Office declined to comment on the criticism.
