Geneva (Switzerland)/New Delhi – India strongly refuted the allegations made by an official of the United Nations regarding the G-20 meeting that is being held in Kashmir. UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, Fernand de Varennes has issued a petition about the question of the minorities in Jammu and Kashmir. In it, he accused, that India is using brute force to deny the minority of its rights, he also expressed his apprehension about the human rights of the minority in the Kashmir Valley. (Does Varennes ever comment on the condition of the Hindu Minorities of Pakistan and Bangladesh? Do the Hindus living there not have Human Rights? – Editor) India has responded that Fernand de Varennes’ allegations are baseless and unwarranted. India refutes them. As the President of G-20, India is well within its right to hold the Summit Meeting in any part of India.

Permanent Mission of India in Geneva commented, “We at India UN Geneva strongly reject the statement issued by SR Fernand de Varennes’ on minority issues and its baseless and unwarranted allegations. As G20 president, it’s India’s prerogative to host its meetings in any part of the country. We are aghast that Fernand de Varennes has acted irresponsibly to politicise this issue, misused his position as SR to publicise on social media his presumptive and prejudiced conclusions in a gross violation of the Code of Conduct for SRs”.
