6 die in the violence in Pakistan

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Rioting continues in Pakistan, for the second day, after the arrest of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Till now, 6 people have died in these riots.

Supporters of Imran Khan and the workers of his ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ’party rioted, vandalised, and arsoned in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, and other places. On the 9th of May, they vandalised Rawalpindi army headquarters. They entered and vandalised the homes of numerous senior Army officers. The Governor’s house in Lahore was torched. Violence was unleashed in Karachi Cantonment as well. The Peshawar radio station was set afire on the 10th of May. It is said that in some places his supporters fired gunshots. On the other hand, PTI party is appealing for a movement using legal means.

All the private schools in Pakistan have been closed in view of the violence in the country. Section 144 has been imposed for 2 days in Islamabad City and in the Punjab Province. Islamabad Police have reported that 5 Police officers have been injured in the violence, and 43 rioters have been arrested.

The media has reported that hundreds of Imran Khan’s PTI party workers have been arrested. Shah Muhammad Qureshi, PTI leader said, our party workers are not taking part in the riots going on in the country, it is being done by the Government’s goons. Our party workers have not taken part in the rioting and vandalising.

Agitation outside Pakistan as well

Agitation opposing the arrest of Imran Khan is taking place not only in Pakistan but outside the country as well. Chicago and New York in the US, Manchester, and London in Britain witnessed agitations by Imran Khan’s supporters. Agitators demonstrated before Pakistan embassies.
