An Income-tax officer was killed in the violence between two ethnic groups in Manipur

Imphal (Manipur) – Imphal-based Income Tax Department officer Letminthang Haokip was killed in ethnic violence between tribal and non-tribal communities. Armed attackers attacked the BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte causing grievous injuries. An armed assailant gunned down a commando of the Central Reserve Police Force.

Fifty-four persons got killed in the clash between the tribal and non-tribal groups. A defence spokesperson informed they had saved 13,000 people and moved them to a safe shelter. They had deployed Paramilitary forces all over.

During the violence they have targeted schools, colleges, houses and vehicles. We can see rows of burnt vehicles in many parts of Manipur. Although the State appears to be peaceful, yet tension prevails there.
