The Chairperson of the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights Priyank Kanoongo

Kolkata – The Chairperson of the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights Priyank Kanoongo was beaten up by the Police at Tiljala Police Station while he was on a tour of Bengal. A 7-year-old girl was murdered in Tiljala. Kanoongo was at Tiljala to investigate this matter. Speaking on the matter Kanoongo said a senior Police inspector called Biswak Mukherjee beat him up. While the proceedings of the murder case were going on, the Police in the Police station secretly recorded it. Kanoongo said Mukherjee beat him up after he opposed this.

The State president of the BJP Suvendu Adhikari has condemned this incident. He tweeted, ‘The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights is a statutory body. It has been established under the Child Rights Act. The fact that the Chairperson of this Commission was beaten up in the Police station shows the state of lawlessness in Bengal.’

Editorial viewpoint

This incident clearly shows the breakdown of law and order in a Trinamool Congress run State. If the Chairperson of such an important organisation can be beaten up in a Police station, then there is no use in even wondering about the plight of the common people.
