Pro-Hindu organisations agitated against the recitation of Quran during the Rathotsav

Hassan (Karnataka) – Pro-Hindu organisations agitated against the recitation of Quran during the Rathotsav (annual chariot festival) of Shri Chennakesava’s historic temple in Belur, Karnataka, on 28th March. The agitation took place right on the temple road. The Rathotsav is organised on 4th and 5th April. It is a custom to recite Quran during this Rathotsav. The custom is protested against every year but this year the pro-Hindu organisations have become more active against it.

During the agitation, a Muslim youth came riding a bike and raised slogans of ‘Quran Zindabad’. This angered the agitators and they stopped him. An argument broke out between the youth and the activists of Bajrang Dal, which caused tension. The Police lathi charged and arrested the youth to control the situation. A huge Police force is guarding the place of incident.

Editorial viewpoint

Does recitation of Bhagawadgeeta or the Vedas ever take place in a Muharram procession ? Can this even happen any time ? When will Hindus learn this and stop exhibiting one sided religious equality ?
