Hindu youth’s house vandalised by Muslims in Bangladesh due to the alleged offensive post of Prophet Mohammad !

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A mob of Muslims attacked and vandalised the house of a Hindu youth in Kotalipara of Gopalganj District in Bangladesh over a Facebook post allegedly insulting the Prophet Mohammad. The incident took place on the evening of 15^th January. There are no reports of casualties. After this incident, additional Police security has been deployed in the area. The young man’s cousin said he did not know about the content of the Facebook post.

1. According to locals, the alleged post hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims in several villages in the Kotalipara and Barisal sub-Districts. Following that, some local Muslims vandalised the youth’s house. This youth has been living in India for the past 7 years, while the rest of the family members moved to India only a few months ago.

2. The Propaganda Secretary of the local Ulema Council said that the Facebook post had hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims, but as a Muslim, I do not support the vandalism.

3. Police officer Mohammad Zillur Rahman said that we had not received any complaint regarding the offensive post. If the complaint is lodged, legal action will be taken after the investigation. As the accused currently resides in India, no action can be taken.
