Implement Anti-Conversion law in Maharashtra immediately : Dr Uday Dhuri (Spokesperson, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti)

Palghar (Maharashtra) – “Religious conversions have been going on for many years in the remote tribal-dominated Talukas of Dahanu, Talasari, Jawhar and Vikramgad in Palghar District. It is a very serious that such incidents happen so close to the capital of Maharashtra. Therefore, Dr Uday Dhuri (Spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti) demanded that an Anti-Conversion law be implemented in Maharashtra immediately. He was speaking at a Press Conference organised by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti at Govindrao Dadoba Thakur Auditorium on 9th August. Mrs Nayana Bhagat (of Sanatan Sanstha) and Mr Balwant Pathak (Mumbai Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti) were present.

Dr Dhuri added, “An incident of attempted conversion by saying that Christianity will stop all your pain came to light at Saravali Talavpada near Dahanu in Palghar District recently. After a Hindu woman complained to the Police with the help of villagers, the Police arrested 4 Christians”.

Conversions are a big problem not only in Maharashtra but the entire country. Swatantryaveer Savarkar had said that ‘Change of religion implies a change of nationality’. If India is not to be divided again, an Anti-Conversion law must be implemented. In the past, there have been cases of conversion of tribal Hindus in the tribal areas of Palghar District. This has led to frequent disputes between Hindus and converted Hindus over the celebration of festivals.

The locals have also demanded that the Police and the administration should take concrete measures to prevent such conversions.
‘Changai sabhas’ are taking place all over the country, spreading false propaganda that ‘the lame will walk’, ‘the blind will see’. Poor Hindus are being converted through such sabhas (Meetings).

Despite the fact that ‘Abolition of Superstitions Act’ has been enacted in the State, such false miracles are being openly propagated by the missionaries. ANiS, who has taken the contract to eliminate superstitions in the State, is also silent on this. Action should be taken under the ‘Witchcraft Act’ against priests who deceive the gullible Hindus by promising such miracles.

The explosion of non-Hindu population is affecting the religious balance of the country : Mrs Nayana Bhagat

“We have already demanded from the Union Government to enact a law banning conversions across the country. One million Hindus are being converted every year in our country. Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are now Christian majority States. In many States, the Christian population is increasing due to conversions. In India, Hindus have become a minority in 9 States. The explosion of non-Hindu population is affecting the religious balance of the country. Already the problem of conversion of Hindu girls through ‘Love Jihad’ is a burning issue; now, the conversion of Hindus by Christians is also going on in a big way. These should be brought under control now”.
