Picture boards of Tipu Sultan put up by the Congress at Bengaluru found torn

Removal of a portrait of Veer Savarkar from a Mall

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Some people tore picture boards of Tipu Sultan that were put up by the Congress. People involved in this act were allegedly opposing the display of picture boards of Tipu Sultan during the 75th Anniversary celebrations of India’s Independence. The Congress has accused Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for the damage to these boards. However, the VHP has not reacted to these accusations. It is understood that the origin of this conflict is in the removal of a portrait of Veer Savarkar from a Mall at Shivamogga in Karnataka.

Shivappa Nayak Mall is in Shivamogga city of Karnataka. On the 75th Anniversary of Independence, the management of the Mall displayed a huge portrait of Veer Sawarkar in the mall. Some people protested against this display. To oppose this protest, activists of Hindu organisations reached the venue and asked the management to retain the portrait; however, the former group started agitating in the Mall premises. As a result, the management covered the portrait. In retaliation, Hindu organisations also commenced an agitation for the retention of the said portrait in its original form.
