Tamil Nadu DMK Govt refuses to cooperate in the suicide probe by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights

The issue of Lavanya committing suicide under the pressure of forced conversion in a convent school

Editorial comment

Will the pro-Christian and anti-Hindu DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) Government ever support Hindus and oppose Christian missionaries ? Hindus feel that the Central Government should intervene in this matter and order a CBI probe.

Chennai – A class 12th student of Sacred Heart High School in Michaelpatt, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu was tortured for religious conversion following which she committed suicide a few days ago. National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo said that the Commission will investigate the matter. Kanoongo will leave for Thanjavur on 30th January. The Commission said that the Tamil Nadu Government has rejected the Commission’s request to cooperate with the investigation. On the other hand, BJP has demanded that the case must be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Commission reported in its statement that although it had requested the Tamil Nadu Government to assist in the investigation, the Tamil Nadu Government refused to assist the local bodies, citing the model code of conduct. The investigation team will proceed with the enquiry and has asked the concerned Superintendent of Police and Investigating Officer to be present at that time.

The Commission had also sought an explanation from the Tamil Nadu Government in the matter. Kanoongo said that a notice had been sent to the Director-General of Police of the State and directed to send a report of the case by 21st January, but the Director-General has not yet given the report. (It appears that the Director-General of Police of the State is violating the law and trying to defend the killers of the Hindu girl. The Union Home Ministry is required to intervene in the matter and provide justice to the family of the deceased Hindu girl. – Editor)
