Amritsar (Punjab) – A man was beaten up by a group of people for trying to insult the Guru Granth Sahib (Holy book of the Sikhs) at the Golden temple, the highest order religious place of the Sikhs, leading to his death. The Punjab CM has condemned it and has ordered the investigation of this case.

- According to the information from the Police, during the Rehras Sahib Path (evening prayer), a man jumped over the safety grill and entered the sanctum sanctorum and picked up the sword kept in front of Shri Guru Granth Sahib, but he was apprehended by the sewadars on duty and was beaten up leading to his death. The dead body of the man has been sent for postmortem.
- Manjinder Singh, the BJP Minister in Punjab, has alleged a conspiracy being behind this. He has discussed this with Amit Shah, the Central Home Minister, regarding this and Shah has assured to investigate this matter.
- On the 15th of December, a youth threw a packet of tobacco in the Amrit Sarovar of this temple. That time, the servants of the temple had caught him and handed him over to the Police.
