597 madarasas are bordering the Siddharthnagar District. Of these, 452 are registered, while 145 madarasas have no registration. It is being investigated as to who is running these unregistered madarasas and how ? Who is funding them ?. It is feared that these madarasas are getting money from Dubai and Gulf Countries. Till 1990, there were only 16 recognised madarassas. In the year 2000, their number increased to 147. Of these, only 45 madarasas were recognised.
District Minority Welfare Officer Tanmay Kumar said that anyone can open a madarasa. Grants are given to Government recognised madarasas only.
Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commandant, SSB 43rd Brigade, said the madarasas with no records were being monitored and the reports sent to the Government.
