Won’t allow India to become ‘Pakistan’ or ‘Taliban’ : Mamata Banerjee

Editorial comment

  • Bengal is headed towards becoming Bangladesh. Therefore, it is ridiculous for Mamata Banerjee to make such a statement ! If Mamata Banerjee wants to do anything for the nation, she must first get rid of the Bangladeshi infiltrators in Bengal.

Kolkata – Speaking at a public meeting held before the by-election in West Bengal’s Bhowanipore, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, ‘Bengal will defend India and we will not allow it to become ‘Pakistan’ or ‘Taliban’ as this is the land of Rabindranath Tagore and the national poet Nazrul Islam. Therefore, people from all communities live together here’. 40% of the Bhowanipore population is non-Bengali.

Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee is contesting from Bhowanipore and BJP has fielded advocate Priyanka Tibriwal against her. Voting will take place on 30th September. Mamata Banerjee had contested from Nandigram during Assembly Elections in Bengal a few months back. At that time, she was defeated by BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari. Sovandev Chattopadhyay of Trinamool Congress, who was elected from Bhowanipore, later resigned as MLA and vacated the seat. Hence, by-elections are taking place there. As per the constitutional rules, Mamata Banerjee has to be elected as MLA by 7th November, so it is inevitable for her to win this election.
