BJP leader Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay and six others arrested for making so-called anti-religious slogans

The ‘Bharat Jodo rally’ was organised in Delhi to repeal the laws of the British era

Delhi – Police have arrested six people for allegedly making provocative slogans against a particular religion during the ‘Bharat Jodo rally’ demanding repeal of British era laws, held at Jantar Mantar here in August.

One of the organisers of the rally is BJP leader and Supreme Court Advocate Shri. Ashwini Upadhyay. Apart from him, Vinod Sharma, Deepak Singh, Deepak, Vineet Kranti, Preeti Singh have been also arrested. Preeti Singh is a Director of the Save India Foundation. The Delhi Police arrested all of them after conducting a cross-examination on 10th August and are also searching for Mr. Pinki Chaudhary of the Hindu Raksha Dal. All of them have been charged under sections 153 A and 188 of the Indian Penal Code. A video of protesters chanting slogans against a particular religion was circulated on social media. The Police then registered a case.

Kshipra Srivastava, Media In-Charge of the rally, said that the rally was led by Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay, but he had no connection with those who made anti-religious slogans.

The authenticity of the video needs to be verified – Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay

Earlier, advocate Ashwini Upadhyay had said that the authenticity of the video should be verified. If there is any fact in it, then action should be taken against the concerned. If the video is fake, then action must be taken against those who made the video. I have watched this video many times, but I have not found the persons raising such slogans. If inquired, we will co-operate fully with the investigation. Even though I am not well, I have reached the Police station for questioning. Our only fault is that we went to celebrate Quit India Day and object to British laws.
