Palestinians poured on the streets to celebrate ceasefire
Tel Aviv (Israel) – Israel declared a ceasefire over the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist organisation, Hamas. After the announcement of ceasefire people came on the streets of Gaza Strip to celebrate. In this conflict that lasted 11 days, 232 Palestinians and 12 Israeli people lost their lives. The ceasefire declared by Israel came as a surprise because Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu had declared that the war will go on. In the last 11 days, more than 4,300 rockets were fired by Hamas, while Israel destroyed a large area of Gaza with bombing and firing missiles.

Palestine claims victory even after being beaten
After the ceasefire, both Israel and Hamas are claiming victories. Declaring the ceasefire from the loudspeakers of the mosques, in Palestine, it was said that the war with Israel has been won and it has proved that Palestinians will retaliate against those who disturb peace.
Result of American pressure
Israel is said to have agreed to a ceasefire following pressure from US President Joe Biden. Even Egypt had intervened for a ceasefire. Egypt’s efforts were praised by Biden.
Netanyahu was criticised for the ceasefire
According to the ‘Times of Israel’, Gideon Saar, leader of Israel’s ‘New Hope’ party, criticised Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Government for declaring a ceasefire even before the Cabinet voted. Gideon Saar said a ceasefire would seriously harm Israeli deterrence against Hamas and other terror groups. Declaring a ceasefire without the liberation of Israeli soldiers and civilians caught in Gaza and before stopping Hamas from becoming stronger, is a major failure.
Yisrael Beytenu chair Avigdor Liberman, another right-wing politician who opposes the Prime Minister Netanyahu, described the looming ceasefire as “another failure of Netanyahu”.
