Mumbai – Adulteration of milk and dairy products is widespread in the state. This not only deceives consumers but also poses serious health concerns. Action against adulteration in milk and dairy products will be given top priority, warned Tukaram Mundhe, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), during a meeting with a delegation from the dairy industry. The delegation included Prakash Kutwal, Secretary of the Milk Producers and Processing Professionals Welfare Association, Senior Director Shripad Chitale and Abasaheb Thorat. During this meeting, detailed discussions were held on measures to curb adulteration in milk and dairy products .

Mundhe stated that plans are underway to increase both the capacity and the number of FDA laboratories. A major crackdown is currently being carried out against substandard paneer, resulting in increased market demand for paneer made from milk. He further emphasized that consumers should get pure and unadulterated products. “Our policy is that consumers should get quality milk and farmers should receive a fair price for their produce. Those who engage in malpractice in the dairy sector will not be tolerated,” he said.
