Annamalai further said that it was very difficult to choose one out of remaining a member of the BJP and remaining committed to the Tamil interests. I had resigned from the post of state president on 4 December, 2025. The party had asked him to complete the elections before leaving the party, he said.
Annamalai resigned from the BJP on 2 June. He has also clarified the reason behind the same. He said that for the last 18 months, his thoughts did not align with those of the senior leadership.

He served as a BJP leader for the last 6 years. Under his leadership, the party contested the 2021 and 2026 Assembly elections. During this period, the BJP’s vote share increased from 2.62% to 11.3%.
