NCERT accepts that it does not have any evidence for these claims in response to PIL

New Delhi – NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) 12th Standard History textbook ‘Themes of Indian History Part -2’ (page 234), mentions that Mughal Emperors Shahajahan and Aurangzeb provided financial grants to rebuild the Hindus temples which were destroyed by Mughal soldiers during wars. The NCERT comes under the purview of the Central Government. An RTI was filed seeking evidence and information regarding such temples. In response, the NCERT has replied saying that they do not posses any document regarding the same. Dr. Indu Vishwanathan, Department of Education provided this information through a tweet.

The NCERT’s response was sent to the petitioner Shivank Sharma on 18th November 2020. This letter has been signed by the Head of the Department and Public Information Officer Prof. Gauri Srivastav.
