Roads are for walking and not for reading namaz : Asserts UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Also advises to learn religious discipline from Hindus

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

New Delhi – The instructions regarding namaz on roads in Meerut are appropriate. Roads are meant for walking. People, who talk about namaz on roads, should learn religious discipline from Hindus. About 66 crore people visited Prayagraj for Maha Kumbha; but there were no incidents of attacks, robbery, teasing, vandalising or kidnapping etc. This is religious discipline. People came with faith, had holy bath and went back home, stated UP CM Yogi Adityanath while justifying a ban on namaz on roads. He was speaking in an interview with Press Trust of India (PTI).

Festivals must be celebrated with discipline

CM Yogi Adityanath further stated that festivals should not become hideous exhibitions of unruliness. If you want any facilities, you have to follow a certain discipline. You are comparing these things with ‘Kawad Yatra’. ‘Kawad Yatra’ is taken out from Haridwar (Uttarakhand) to Ghaziabad (UP); therefore, they will go by road. Have we ever stopped any procession taken out by Muslim community ? A procession is taken out for Muharram. We have asked them to decrease the height of ‘Tazia (a religious tower in Muharram procession)’ which is only for their safety. There are electric wires above and any untoward incident can happen due to electric shock; therefore, decrease in height is advised.

‘Namaz-pathan’ should be done in an Eidgah or a mosque

CM Yogi Adityanath added that even in Kawad-yatra, decrease in DJ’s height has been instructed. Those, who do not follow the instructions, are forced to follow them. Law is equal for all. On Eid, are you going to block roads for hours in the name of namaz ? The place for namaz is an Eidgah or a mosque and not roads.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Does any ruler in the country speak as openly as Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath and take due action ?
  • Hindus need to elect heads of States or rulers, who are ascetic, detached, and saintly, like Yogi Adityanath.
