Debate continues till late night on Waqf (Amendment) Bill

New Delhi – ‘Waqf (Amendment) Bill’ was presented in Parliament by the Union Government today. Members of the ruling and opposition parties expressed their views from 12 noon till late night on the Bill. During the debate, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that non-Islamic matters would not be allowed in Waqf. Minorities are being frightened for their vote bank. The Bill will be presented in the Upper House only after it is passed in the Lower House. As per the plan, the Bill will be presented in the Upper House tomorrow, on 03.04.2025. The Bill will be tabled for voting after debate in both the Houses is concluded. The Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju moved the Bill in the morning today. Thereafter, leaders of the ruling party as well as opposition parties expressed their views on the Bill. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress’ Kalyan Banerjee, Shiv Sena (UBT) Arvind Sawant, etc opposed the Bill while BJP’s former Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad, the Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Janata Dal (U) Lalan Singh, Shiv Sena (Shinde) Party’s Shrikant Shinde, etc expressed their views in support of the Bill.
Waqf Board needs to be made secular – Kiren Rijiju

The Union Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju while presenting the Bill in the morning, said that the Waqf Board needs to be made secular. Now, there will be Shia, Sunni, Bohra, backward class Muslims, non-Muslim experts and women in Waqf. Waqf Board can have 4 non-Muslim members; out of whom, two members have to be women. Waqf would have laid a claim even on the Parliament, had the Bill was not brought in. The Government will not interfere in religious conduct of any sect through the Waqf Bill. This Bill is related only to the management of property and it has no connection with management of either temple, or mosque or any religious place. I have no solution if someone doesn’t understand this basic difference or purposely doesn’t want to understand the difference.
Union Minister Amit Shah criticises dynastic politics of opposition

Akhilesh Yadav said while expressing his views and criticising BJP that BJP claims to be the biggest political party in the world. Even then, they have not been able to elect their national president. In reply, the Union Home Minister stated that there are 12-13 crore members of our party; therefore, it takes time to take a decision since everyone’s view has to be taken into consideration. In some parties, five members from one family take decisions while in your party, only you take decisions. I can say today that you would remain as the party president for the next 25 years.
