New Delhi – ‘The Government money should not be used for any religious programme. This is wrong. The Assam government has decided not to run madarasas with the money from/ Government coffers. On the similar lines, the Uttar Pradesh Government should not have spent Rs 4,200 crore on Kumbh Mela’, tweeted Congress leader and former MP Udit Raj. He later deleted the tweet due to protest expressed on it. He later told a news channel, “The State has no religion. Everyone should be treated equally. No one should be discriminated against. In this context, I had given an example of the cost of Kumbha Mela.
Reacting on this, Uttar Pradesh Minister Brijesh Pathak said that Kumbha Mela is a world-class event. It is not limited to only Uttar Pradesh. It is attended by millions of people from all over the world. Therefore, such projects should not be criticised.
Religion should be separate from political power & state shouldn't interfere/encourage/discourage any religion. In this context, I cited example of Kumbh fair expenditure, it was huge: Congress leader Udit Raj on his now-deleted tweet questioning UP govt's spending on Kumbh fair pic.twitter.com/I9fxkPeupg
