External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar’s appeal at ASEAN meeting in Manila, Philippines
(‘ASEAN’ is an organisation of Southeast Asian countries comprising Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.)
Manila (Philippines) – “There must be zero tolerance towards terrorism. Terrorist acts must have consequences, and there can be no doubt about this. We must prioritise cutting off the financial support that enables terrorism and must not be negligent in this regard,” said External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar while addressing the ministerial meeting of the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum held here. He also called for ensuring that international shipping routes remain safe and open.
Trade through international waterways must remain safe !
Speaking about attacks on commercial vessels in conflict-affected areas near the Strait of Hormuz, Dr Jaishankar said, “Attacks on maritime transport and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable under any circumstances. Trade through international waterways must remain safe and continue without obstruction. Indian sailors have also lost their lives in these attacks.”
