Protesters commit violence again on Delhi’s Tolstoy Marg, Police lathicharge
The ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar turned violent again on the night of July 22nd. Protesters pelted stones at the police on Tolstoy Marg and tried to assault. The Police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells. According to officials, while Jantar Mantar has a capacity of 4,000 people, an estimated 12,000 people had gathered there. This led to the crowd spreading to Tolstoy Marg and Sansad Marg.
Delhi Police said in an official statement that the violence took place around 8:30 p.m. near Tolstoy Marg in Connaught Place. Some miscreants attacked the Police with stones and bottles. In this, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Connaught Place Vivek Bhagat was injured. Senior officers admitted him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment. The situation was tense for a few minutes; but now there is peace as usual.
Officials said security personnel initially requested the protesters to disperse peacefully. Police also called leaders and organizers of the Cockroach Janata Party to the scene and asked them to appeal to the crowd to maintain peace; but the protesters ignored even their own organizers’ appeals.
Protesters carried sticks and swords
After the violence escalated, a large number of stones were pelted at the security personnel. Police claimed that some protesters carried sticks in the clash, while others threatened with swords. The Police then used limited force. (Why don’t Congress, Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party etc. open their mouths on this? Or do they support this? – Editor).
BJP goons are pelting stones : Abhijit Deepke’s allegation
Cockroach Party founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that goons sent by the BJP were coming among the protesters and throwing stones.
The government closed 16 metro stations in Delhi this morning for security reasons. This includes the Supreme Court metro station. The matter has now reached the Chief Justice of India Suryakant. The Chief Justice said that the Court would intervene if necessary.
Will end my hunger strike today if I get assurance : Sonam Wangchuk
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, on the orders of the High Court, has released a video. He said, “It has been 25 days since I started hunger strike; but I am still alive. Some MPs came to meet me. They requested me to end the hunger strike. If I get assurance from the government, I am ready to end the hunger strike today itself. The government should not take action against the students.”
On the evening of July 22nd, 15 MPs from Aam Aadmi Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Samajwadi Party tried to meet Wangchuk at the Medanta Hospital; but were stopped by the Police. At this time, an argument broke out between the Police and the MPs. The angry MPs staged a sit-in protest at the entrance. There was a commotion for an hour.

On the other hand, Union Minister J.P. Nadda held a press conference and said that Wangchuk has written an open letter to us. We will reply to that letter soon. We also listened to the people of Cockroach Janata Party calmly. They have submitted a written statement. We are ready for discussion at any time.
Wangchuk has made 3 demands to the government. These include compensation to the families of students who committed suicide due to NEET question paper leak, holding a thorough discussion in Parliament to ascertain accountability, and to consider the resignation of the Education Minister.
Uproar again in both the Houses of Parliament
On July 23rd, there was a ruckus in Parliament over the demand for the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. MPs from both the ruling and opposition parties gathered at Makar Dwar in Parliament and presented their positions. After the protest ended, the MPs returned to the House. As soon as the Lok Sabha resumed, the opposition created a ruckus. They demanded a discussion on Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and the ‘NEET’ (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) exam issue. As a result, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House for an hour amid the ruckus, while the Rajya Sabha also had to be adjourned for an hour due to the opposition’s ruckus.

Cockroach Janata Party spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya was removed from his post after a video went viral showing him eating a burger while he was not present at the protest at Jantar Mantar. Dahiya has accused party founder Abhijeet Dipke on this.
He said that while I was eating a burger near Jantar Mantar, the Manuwadi people questioned me. There was an uproar over the burger. I was getting ready to join the protest again. At that time, I received a phone call from Abhijeet Dipke. Abhijeet told me that you should not be afraid. There is no problem. Such things happen. Suddenly he told me that you should not join the protest. I asked ‘Why?’ He said, ‘Your burger video has become viral.’ I told him that people’s criticizm is fine; but you have witnessed that I was there for the last 2 nights. I was deciding what to do if the Police came. Abhijeet said ‘Yes’. Abhijeet, when the video of you eating kachori was circulated, I stood by you. I stood by you at other times too. I was doing things that would benefit the protest; but now suddenly one day I come to know that my own people made me a scapegoat.

Two days ago, Congress party protested outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. Now Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali Angmo has strongly criticized this. She said that this protest of Congress was completely hypocritical and politically motivated. If Congress leaders really cared about the students, instead of performing ‘stunts’ outside the Prime Minister’s residence, they would have gone to Jantar Mantar and participated in the students’ protest.

Everyone who supports this movement without any political ‘agenda’ is welcome; but those who come for their own selfish interests will automatically step aside.
National Security Act implemented in Delhi
The National Security Act has been imposed in Delhi after the violence at Jantar Mantar. The Union Home Ministry and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi have given special powers to the newly appointed Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to directly arrest any person under the National Security Act. This special power will be applicable for a period of 3 months from July 19th, 2026 to October 18th, 2026. According to this law, any person can be kept in Police custody for a period of 12 days to 12 months without framing charges or conducting a trial.
On September 26th last year, protester Sonam Wangchuk was arrested under the National Security Act following an order by the District Magistrate of Leh in Ladakh. He was kept in detention for 170 days.
