5 Hindu youths arrested for consuming meat and alcohol on a boat in the River Ganga

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) – Chicken was consumed, and an alcohol party was held in the middle of the River Ganga near Dashashwamedh Ghat. After a video of the incident was circulated on social media, the police arrested all five accused and seized the boat.

  1. In the video that surfaced, all five accused are seen consuming chicken and alcohol on the boat. Those arrested are Deepak Kumar, Ajay Sahni, Arun Kumar Sahni, Anurag Nishad and Rahul Sahni. They are between 25 and 32 years of age.
  2. Atul Anjan Tripathi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dashashwamedh, said that after watching the video, it appeared to be old. No BJP corporator is seen in the video; however, the boat definitely belongs either to him or to a member of his family.
  3. Earlier, too, an incident involving Muslims holding an Iftar party on the River Ganga in Varanasi had come to light. Arrests had also been made in that case. The youths had eaten chicken biryani and thrown the bones into the River Ganga.

Editorial Perspective

Previously, Muslims had held an Iftar feast on a boat in the River Ganga and thrown the bones into the river. Now Hindus have done the same. Owing to the lack of religious education, Hindus have not understood the significance of the River Ganga. Therefore, imparting religious education to Hindus has become imperative.
