Guwahati (Assam) – Owing to India’s sustained efforts to send Bangladeshi infiltrators back to Bangladesh through “push-back” operations, tensions have arisen between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). The situation is particularly tense along the borders with Meghalaya and Bengal. Against this backdrop, Assam Police arrested 13 Bangladeshi nationals on the morning of 21 June after receiving information that they had recently entered India. The group, which included women and children, was apprehended from a guest house in Aryanagar.
Police trying to dismantle the network of agents and middlemen
The Assam Police are currently giving priority to tracing the network of agents and middlemen who arrange documents, shelter and transportation for infiltrators to other places.

How was the information obtained ?
The existence of these 13 Bangladeshi nationals came to light during the interrogation of a Bangladeshi woman who had been detained at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on 16 June for possessing a forged Aadhaar card.
According to the news portal Sentinel Assam, the administration has sent back hundreds of newly arrived Bangladeshi nationals to their homeland over the past few months.
• On 12 June, nine Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at Guwahati Railway Station.
• On 11 April, four Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in the Dispur area and sent back to Bangladesh.
