E-cigarettes are banned in India !
(An e-cigarette is a battery-operated device resembling a cigarette, cigar or pen that vaporises a nicotine-containing liquid with flavourings and other chemicals for inhalation, and its safety and effectiveness in helping people quit smoking remain uncertain. Using it by an individual is called ‘vaping’)

Mumbai, 20 June – A shocking incident has come to light in which students of a renowned school in Dadar were found smoking e-cigarettes (also called vaping). What is even more serious is that e-cigarettes are banned in India. Nevertheless, e-cigarettes costing more than ₹1,000 each were found in the possession of students. To make all parents aware of this serious issue, the school held a meeting on 20 June with the parents of students of Classes IX and X and gave them the necessary instructions.
Some parents of the students informed a representative of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ about the incident. The school has classes from kindergarten to Class X. A few days ago, cigarette butts were found in the school bags of some students. After the parents informed the teachers about the matter, the teachers kept a watch on these students. It was then noticed that during the school recess, some students were going behind cover and smoking e-cigarettes.

Teachers advised the parents in the meeting, “Students may purchase e-cigarettes by falsely claiming that the school has demanded money or by stealing money from home. Some students may pool money and jointly buy e-cigarettes. To prevent such incidents, parents should keep a watch on students and inspect their school bags. Parents should remain vigilant so that their children do not go astray.”
Similar incidents of students smoking e-cigarettes have previously been reported in some other schools in Mumbai.
