Jamaat-e-Islami says, ‘We will not compromise on protecting Bangladesh’s sovereignty!’

Bangladesh opposes India’s campaign to repatriate illegal immigrants!

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – “We have never compromised, and will never compromise, on protecting Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. We will oppose the forcible return of people,” warned Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General of the hardline organisation Jamaat-e-Islami, in response to India’s campaign to repatriate Bangladeshi illegal immigrants back to Bangladesh. He stated that Jamaat-e-Islami, along with 11 Islamic parties, would organise nationwide protests.

Azad further said that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) should be strengthened in order to prevent the forcible return of people. Residents of border areas should form human chains to ensure that terrorists, smugglers, or criminals are unable to enter Bangladesh.

Azad claimed that during March, April, and May, attempts were made at more than 50 locations along the border to forcibly push 2,479 people into Bangladesh. 19 Bangladeshi citizens have been killed in firing by India’s Border Security Force since February.

Editorial Perspective

What about the violation of India’s sovereignty caused by sending Bangladeshi illegal immigrants into India over the past seven decades? Whatever organisations such as Jamaat-e-Islami may say, India is determined to deport all Bangladeshi illegal immigrants back to Bangladesh, and they should keep this in mind.
