‘If offering namaz on roads is wrong, then ban celebrations of all religious festivals’: AIMIM Chief Owaisi

New Delhi – If offering namaz on roads is considered wrong, then under Article 25 of the Constitution, all religious activities of every faith, including the celebration of festivals on roads, should be prohibited equally, demanded AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) chief and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi. He was responding to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement opposing the offering of namaz on roads. Article 25 guarantees freedom of religion and the right to practice and propagate one’s faith.

Owaisi said,

1. Objections raised against namaz reflect double standards. Why are similar concerns not expressed regarding religious processions and gatherings of other communities? (Hindu religious programmes are conducted after obtaining proper permissions, whereas Muslims are widely known for violating the law! – Editor)

2. Namaz is offered on roads only on Fridays at noon or during Eid, not every day. (This is akin to saying that committing an offence one day out of 365 days in a year does not make it wrong! – Editor) Festivals of every religion in India are celebrated on roads, are they not? You do not see that; you choose to ignore it.

3. If you say that meat shops should remain closed during someone’s festival, then liquor shops should also remain closed during the 30 days of Ramzan. Liquor shops should not be allowed to operate for those 30 days. (Do Owaisi and his brethren not remember their religion when incidents such as Love Jihad, Spit Jihad, Land Jihad, thefts, robberies, riots, and jihadi terrorist acts occur during Ramzan? – Editor)

4. People do not object to speeches delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at public rallies, but they object to the azaan and namaz.

5. Whenever major Muslim festivals such as Ramzan or Bakri Eid approach, issues related to azaan and namaz are deliberately raised. What exactly is the problem with azaan and namaz? What is wrong with you? (When Hindu religious processions pass in front of mosques with musical instruments, attacks are deliberately launched from mosques against them. Why does Owaisi not speak about that? – Editor)

Your hatred is only for Muslims!

Questioning restrictions imposed on the sale of eggs, meat, and chicken during Hindu festivals, Owaisi asked what kind of law this was. He said, “Your hatred is only for Muslims. Your hatred clearly shows that you are trying to suppress followers of this religion and push them backwards. You want to make them second-class citizens.” (Why does Owaisi not speak about what is happening to Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh? Hindus and Sikhs were driven out of Afghanistan. Why does Owaisi not speak about that either? If Muslims in India face hatred or feel like second-class citizens, they should move to Islamic countries. Nobody is asking them to remain here. Have Hindus alone taken responsibility for being virtuous? Even secular Hindus should not forget that it was because of such misplaced virtue that India was partitioned! – Editor)

Editorial Perspective

  • After claiming that “we cannot live together with Hindus”, and after the killing of lakhs of Hindus and the rape of Hindu women, Muslims were given Pakistan by partitioning India. Even after that, due to Mohandas Gandhi, Muslims remained in India, and now they are demanding that Hindus should not celebrate their festivals on roads. The time has come to expel such people from India!
  • Those who demand the right to offer namaz on roads, and those who actually do so, should now be apprehended and expelled from India!
