100 murders, 28 rapes and 95 temples vandalized in the last 4 months!

Atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh continue!

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – The ‘Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities’ has released a national report on the ongoing violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. It has recorded 505 harrowing incidents of harassment and violence against minorities in the first 4 months of 2026 (January to April). There have been 100 murders and suspicious deaths of Hindus, which have taken place in 47 different Districts. In addition, 144 incidents of kidnapping and brutal assaults have been reported in 49 Districts. This includes 28 rapes, and 95 temples have been vandalized. These figures include only those that have been independently identified and confirmed. In reality, these number could be much higher since many people do not report complaints to the Police due to fear and social pressure.

The report clearly states that despite the change of power in Bangladesh, the situation of Hindus and other vulnerable communities has not improved and they continue to be victims of violent attacks, killings and robberies. This report is the largest and most comprehensive, concrete document on the current situation in Bangladesh.

Highlights from the report

A network of hatred spread throughout Bangladesh

The organization stated that the 505 incidents against minorities are not limited to a small area or city. This is the result of a well-planned conspiracy and hatred spread across the country. This violence has spread to 62 out of 64 Districts in all 8 administrative divisions of Bangladesh. This means that there is hardly a corner of the country where the minority community can feel safe. This includes rural areas to big cities, where Hindu families live every moment in fear.

Violence against women and illegal control over land

Women and girls from minority communities are being targeted the most in this violence. The report cites 28 horrific incidents of sexual violence against women, rape and gang rape, which have taken place in 23 different Districts. There have been 132 major incidents of destruction of property of Hindu and indigenous (tribal) communities, forcible seizure of their ancestral lands, burning of houses and looting. Economically weak minority families are being driven out of their homes through the use of money and force, in an attempt to compel them to leave the country.

Attacks on 95 temples and false accusations of blasphemy

Religious freedom in Bangladesh appears to be in complete jeopardy. In just 4 months, 95 incidents of attacks and vandalism on Hindu temples and religious sites have been reported. Mobs are openly targeting temples and desecrating sacred idols.

Apart from this, the weapon of ‘blasphemy’ is being used as a weapon to target people from minority communities. A total of six such cases have been reported where mobs were incited to commit violence using false accusations.

The government changed; but the suffering of Hindus has not changed!

The change of power in Bangladesh has not had any impact on the security of minorities. Even during the 18-month tenure of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunusin 2025, there were horrific atrocities against Hindus, which have shocked the entire world. During that period, as many as three and a half thousand incidents of attacks and atrocities against Hindus had taken place. Later, when the newly elected government came to power in February 2026, there was an expectation that the situation would improve; but even during the government of the ‘Bangladesh Nationalist Party’, this violence continues at the same pace. This makes it clear that this crisis is not a symptom of any one political party but a symptom of the failure of the system there.

The administration’s silence and mockery of the law

The report raises serious questions about the law-and-order situation and Police administration in Bangladesh. The victims’ families allege that whenever they are attacked, the Police either arrive too late or weaken the case investigation. The impunity of the perpetrators has emboldened them. Victims and witnesses are intimidated, due to which they do not approach the Courts. This institutional failure has left the minority community completely demoralized and under immense psychological stress.

Reports from other organizations also testify

Apart from the ‘Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities’, other human rights organizations in Bangladesh are also supporting these claims. Earlier, the ‘Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council’ had also released a report, which mentioned 133 incidents of religious atrocities between January to March. The report had information about 25 murders, atrocities on women and looting of 35 temples.

All these reports lead to the same conclusion that if the Bangladesh government does not take immediate and stringent steps and punish the culprits, it will be impossible for the minority population to survive there in the coming days.

Editorial Perspective

  • Irrespective of which government comes to power in Bangladesh, the genocide of Hindus will not stop; because Muslims are 'Muslims'; no matter what party they belong to, their hatred for Hindus remains intact.
  • It is shameful that Hindu-majority India, Hindu organizations in India and 100 crore Hindus remain inactive in this regard.
