Indian-origin Imam in London sentenced to life imprisonment for sexual exploitation

London (UK) – Abdul Halim Khan, an Indian-origin Imam who claimed to possess supernatural powers and raped multiple women, including 12-year-old minor girls, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

1. The judge stated that the accused specifically targeted women and girls from the Bangladeshi Muslim community. He did this assuming that the victims would not complain against the sexual exploitation due to fear of the Imam’s authority and a sense of shame.

2. Britain’s ‘The Independent’ news channel reported that Abdul Halim Khan abused his religious position to sexually exploit 7 Muslim women and girls over a 9-year period between 2005 and 2014. ‘Sky News’ reported that he told the victims that a ‘supernatural spirit’ had possessed him or took his form while forcing the sexual acts.

3.  According to a ‘BBC’ report, the Imam had told a minor victim that only he could treat her cervical cancer. He then took her in his car to an isolated location and raped her.
