Muslim woman raped by in-laws under the guise of Halala

Victim demands strict action against the accused

(Halala refers to the practice in which, after a Muslim woman is divorced through Talaq, if she wishes to remarry the same man, she must first enter into physical relations with another man.)

Agra (UP) – A married Muslim woman in Agra district has alleged that after her husband gave her triple talaq, her father-in-law raped her in the name of halala, and later her brother-in-law also sexually assaulted her. The victim has demanded strict action against all the accused.

1. The married victim stated that she has two children. Her in-laws were repeatedly demanding additional dowry.

2. When the demands for ₹1 crore in dowry and a luxury Mercedes-Benz car were not fulfilled, her husband pronounced talaq three times on 11th May.

3. On 12^th May, the husband told her that if she wished to live with him again, she would have to undergo Halala.

4. Thereafter, the father-in-law and brother-in-law raped her. When the victim resisted, her husband and in-laws assaulted her physically.

5. The victim contacted the Police and informed them about the ordeal she had faced. The Police rushed to the spot and rescued her.

6. The officer in charge of Mantola Police Station stated that a case has been registered against the husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law based on the woman’s complaint.

7. On the other hand, the victim woman’s husband has also accused her family members of trespassing into the house and assaulting them. The Police are conducting further investigation into the matter.
