Brutal assault and murder of a 4-year-old girl by a 65-year-old accused in Nasrapur (Pune) !

Pune – A shocking incident of assault followed by the murder of a 4-year-old girl took place on 1 May in the Nasrapur area of Bhor taluka in Pune district. In this case, the police arrested the 65-year-old accused, Bhimaji Kamble, within one and a half hours. After the incident came to light, enraged villagers staged a road blockade on the Pune–Bengaluru highway.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill immediately visited the spot and understood the sentiments of the villagers. He assured that strict punishment would be ensured through a fast-track court. After assurances from senior officials, the road blockade was withdrawn.

  1. Villagers called for a shutdown in the village on 2 May while continuing their agitation. The protesters took an aggressive stand, saying, “Give the death penalty to this brute or hand him over to us; we will deal with him ourselves.”
  2. The victim had come to her grandmother’s house. She was playing outside the house, but when she was not seen for a long time, a search was initiated.
  3. During the search, her dead body was found lying in a suspicious condition inside a cowshed. As the news spread, villagers expressed anger and launched protests.
  4. The accused lured her to the cowshed by saying he would show her a calf, assaulted her, and then killed her by smashing her with a stone. The body was hidden under a heap of dung in the cowshed. CCTV footage from the village shows the accused taking her along.
  5. The accused Bhimaji Kamble had previously assaulted another girl and had been punished for it. Two serious offences are already registered against him at the Rajgad Police Station. Protesters questioned, “If the accused has confessed to the crime, what is the need for further investigation ?”
  6. To prevent any law and order disturbance after the incident, the police have deployed heavy security in the village. Senior officers of Pune Rural Police are closely monitoring the situation, and additional police force has been called in to prevent any untoward incident.

Demand for the death penalty for the accused! – Chief Minister

The incident in Nasrapur of Pune district is extremely condemnable and shocking. The accused has a prior criminal background. The case will be taken to a fast-track court, and a request will be made to the High Court to set up a special fast-track court. A special public prosecutor will be appointed to seek the death penalty for the accused, informed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Villagers continue highway protest on 2 May

On 2 May, villagers staged a sit-in protest on the Pune–Bengaluru highway from the morning. Due to the blockade, police resorted to a lathi-charge and forced the protesters to move to nearby routes. Some women alleged that police personnel pushed and mishandled them. The situation created tension on the highway.
