Manchar (Pune): Illegal Waqf Board entry on historic ‘Barav’ finally removed !

Victory of the sustained struggle by devout Hindus !

(A ‘Barav’ is a stepwell from the era of Shivraya, typically square or rectangular in shape.)

Pune – The Revenue Department has finally removed the незакон entry made by the Waqf Board on the 12th-century historic Barav and its surrounding area in Manchar (Taluka Ambegaon). After a prolonged struggle by devout Hindus and aware citizens to protect this ancient cultural heritage, the administration was compelled to delete the незакон entry. “This decision is not merely a legal victory, but extremely significant for the preservation of our cultural heritage,” said Pramod Bankhele, BJP Industries Front North Pune District President, during a press conference held in Manchar. Former BJP Taluka President Sandeep Bankhele, Mahesh Pingale, Ganesh Bankhele, Chaitanya Mahajan and office-bearers of various organisations were present at the conference.

A few days earlier, BJP MP Prof Dr (Mrs) Medha Kulkarni had visited the site and staged a protest against the encroachment at the Barav location.

A victory safeguarding cultural identity !

Encroachment had taken place over approximately 4 acres within the limits of Nighotwadi Gram Panchayat near Manchar. The Waqf Board’s name had been незаконly recorded on this historic land. Pramod Bankhele and local Hindus had consistently demanded that the land be restored to government ownership and its historical character preserved. This struggle has now succeeded, and the land has been re-entered under government ownership in the 7/12 land record.

Key aspects of the struggle

1. Encroachment across 4 acres has been removed and the незакон Waqf Board entry deleted.

2. A demand has been made to Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar to transfer this site to the Archaeology Department for preservation of the historic Barav and its inscriptions.

“Hindu society must remain vigilant to protect historical sites !” – Pramod Bankhele

Pramod Bankhele stated, “This victory is an inspiring example of preserving our history, culture and identity. It is the need of the hour for Hindu society to remain vigilant in protecting such historical sites in the future as well.”

Editorial Perspective

Without being content with the freeing of this Barav, Hindus should continue to follow up with the administration until encroachments on every Hindu temple, religious and historical site are removed.
