Imphal (Manipur) – As part of the ongoing security operation in Manipur, security forces conducted extensive searches in various hill and valley districts of the State. According to a statement issued by the Police, a total of 29 weapons, 50 explosives and other military equipment were seized in the operation. This is considered a major success for the security forces and will help in preventing possible violent activities. The seizure of such a large cache of weapons and explosives in the neighbouring State of Manipur ahead of the elections in Assam is a major achievement.
Large-scale action in Tengnoupal district
29 explosives, 5 hand grenades, 5 electric detonators and other explosive materials were seized from the areas of Loisi and Saivom villages in Tengnoupal district, which is close to the India-Myanmar border. A search operation was also conducted in Yangoubung village of this district. 12 explosives, 4 radio sets, 3 pistols and 1 grenade launcher were seized from there. 9 improvised explosive devices, 1 pistol and ammunition were seized from S.L. Zougam area. All the explosive devices were destroyed on the spot following safety regulations.
Action in other districts as well
1. Security forces achieved major success in Lamdeng and Kameng areas of Imphal West district, where 11 pistols, 85 cartridges, 4 bulletproof jackets and 3 other weapons were seized.
2. 5 firearms and ammunition were also seized at the foothills of Tekcham Sanji Ching in Thoubal district.
3. In a special operation conducted in the Wabagai Turel Mamai area of Kakching district, 6 firearms including one AK-56 rifle, 3 hand grenades and a large quantity of ammunition were seized.
