Chikkaballapur (Karnataka) – Mourning is being observed here following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the joint Israel-US attack. In Alipur village of Chikkaballapur, a district neighbouring Bengaluru, a three-day mourning period has been declared. Villagers expressed their grief by keeping shops and markets closed.
Khamenei has a close connection with Chikkaballapur. He visited Alipur village in 1986, and memories of that visit remain fresh among locals. Around 20,000 Shia Muslims in Alipur regard Khamenei as a religious leader. A private hospital in Alipur still operates in his name.
