Don’t mislead children; Show the real ‘Santa Claus’, get 1 lakh! – Challenge of Hindu Rashtra Samanvay Samiti’s appeal

Kolhapur, December 23 (News) : As Christmas approaches, people selling Santa Claus hats start appearing in large numbers in most cities of India. Despite being Hindus, those who call themselves ‘progressive’ and ‘professing that all religions are equal’ (sarvasamabhavi) wear these hats for themselves and their children, telling them that ‘Santa Claus’ comes after children sleep and leaves ‘gifts’ for them, and thus they start cultural conversion of children; but did ‘Santa Claus’ really exist? Does ‘Santa Claus’ really come and give gifts to children? ‘What do Christians think about this ‘Santa’?’, Hindu society, without thinking about this fallacy, is making the children fall prey to superstition.

Those who otherwise deride Hindu deities as “myth” and oppose Hindu customs and traditions -why are they silent now? We challenge on behalf of the entire Hindu community: prove that the ‘real Santa Claus’ comes and earn ₹1 lakh! If this is false, then do not mislead children. This Mr. Nitin Kakade, Taluka Coordinator of the Hindu Rashtra Samanvay Samiti posed this challenge. He was speaking at a press conference in Kolhapur.

Mr. Kakade further said that, regarding ‘Santa Claus’, what Christian clergy themselves have said about ‘Santa Claus’ is extremely shocking. Even if one understands the statements of just a few of them, the falsehood in this will be clear.

Opinions expressed by Christians about ‘Santa Claus’

1.      Bishop (senior priest) Antonio Stagliano of Italy, while questioning the existence of Santa Claus, says, ‘Santa Claus is an imaginary figure, and the Coca-Cola establishment has used him for advertising its products !’

2.      The famous American Christian author and pastor Mark Driscoll has said that ‘Santa Claus’ is a ‘Christmas monster’ that forces parents to lie to their own children. Telling children that ‘Santa exists’ is like damaging their trust, he has said.

3.      Among the four major Christian church traditions, the Orthodox Church almost completely rejects the concept of ‘Santa Claus’. In Orthodox churches in countries such as Russia and Greece, figures like ‘Saint Basil’ or ‘Father Frost’ are honored instead of Santa. According to them, ‘Santa Claus’ is an illusion created by the marketplace, which has no connection with Orthodox spiritual tradition. According to the Anglican Church, Santa is an entertaining story and not the central focus of Christmas, while Protestant institutions consider Santa Claus to be ‘idolatry’ or ‘superstition.’

Why is Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti silent when it comes to Christian superstitions, when Christian religious leaders and institutions themselves call Santa Claus ‘nonsense’? Why should Hindus glorify him? Be alert before it is too late and inculcate values (sanskars) in alignment with Hindu Dharma in your children. Do not impose Christian superstitions on them from an early age. Why is Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti, which targets Hindu religious beliefs in the name of eradicating superstition, sitting quietly when it comes to Christian superstitions? The Hindu Rashtra Samanvay Samiti has also challenged Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti to show what kind of progressivism or scientific outlook it sees in ‘Santa’.
