After 51 years, Waqf Board returns property to Guruvirakt Math !

Sindagi (Karnataka) – The 30 acres of land worth crores of rupees of the Gurubasava Virakta Math usurped by Waqf board has been returned to the mutt after 51 years of relentless struggle. Ningappa Gurubasavapa Pattanshetty, secretary of Gurubasava Virakta Math Seva Samiti, while talking to reporters, shared this good news.

1. 28-acre land of Virakta Math with survey number 1020 in Sindagi city in Vijaypur district was mentioned as the property of Karnataka waqf board in the revenue documents. (R.T.C.)

Earlier, during the time of Siddalingaiah Swamiji, who was the head of the Math, the number 11 column of the entry was empty; However, in the year 2018-2019, this record of the land was changed to ‘Kabrastan Waqf Boards’. Devotees started resisting from then on when they realised that the change was illegal. There were also many protests about this.

3. It took 11 months of litigation to rid the Virakta Mutt property from the Waqf Board and finally the property of the Sri Math has been returned to the Mutt. The Hon’ble Court has ordered that these properties have no connection with the Waqf Board.

4. The Sindagi Math is not an ordinary monastery, but the contribution of the monastery in the field of education is huge. The Math has established schools and colleges with the aim of providing quality education to the students of the surrounding rural areas. Many educational institutions come under the administration of the Mutt including the Shri Guru Kumareshwar Religious School at Byaggi. Thousands of students have made their future by studying in these institutions.

Thousands of acres of such land in the country have been illegally occupied by the Waqf Board. Considering the number of years of struggle required to release them, it has become necessary to dissolve the Waqf Board and return such land to the concerned !
