The SIR process is crucial for verifying voter rolls. Naturally, such scrutiny exposes Bangladeshi infiltrators. Therefore, this process is not dangerous for Bengal; the process is dangerous for Mamata Banerjee’s political future.

Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata (Bengal) – Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Chief Election Commissioner, alleging that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is ‘dangerous for Bengal’ and demanded its immediate halt. She claimed that the process is being enforced in the State through coercive means and has multiple serious flaws.

According to her, election officials have not been adequately trained for this exercise, no clear guidelines have been issued, and the process has been launched without any groundwork. As a result, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and citizens are under pressure. She further alleged that BLOs are panicking as they are being threatened with disciplinary action. Banerjee added that many BLOs are schoolteachers and Government staff. They are being forced to conduct door-to-door surveys while simultaneously completing online documentation-tasks, which is beyond human capacity.

BSF reports over 100 Bangladeshi infiltrators returning daily

A Border Security Force (BSF) officer informed that there has been a sharp increase in Bangladeshi infiltrators returning to Bangladesh through unfenced stretches along the North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, and Malda borders. More than 100 illegal Bangladeshis are returning daily, which is 3 times higher than earlier trends. BSF personnel stationed at border posts report that people carrying small bags are arriving at checkpoints and openly admitting that they are Bangladeshi nationals who had been living illegally in India for years.
