Panvel, Maharashtra – A video has gone viral on social media showing a Christian woman preaching her religion inside a Panvel–Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus local train. Speaking sweetly and persuasively, she is seen loudly sharing verses and ideas from the Bible with fellow passengers. Despite this public act of religious proselytisation, not a single person intervenes to stop her. The report was broadcast by the ‘Jai Maharashtra’ channel.

1. The incident has triggered strong reactions on social media. Many users have demanded that the railway authorities take note of the matter and take action against those promoting Christianity in a public space, especially when the majority of the passengers are Hindus. Some have said that such behaviour in a local train with predominantly Hindu passengers is objectionable and amounts to psychological harassment.

2. The woman is seen entering even the men’s compartment and declaring loudly, “Jesus is alive. Jesus has taken away my sins and my shame. He lives forever. Whoever believes in Him will receive heaven. Accept Jesus. He has loved everyone.” The report claims that she has been doing this for the past one and a quarter months.

3. The report also states that another man frequently speaks about religious conversion at the railway station. As if appointed to a daily job, a few people are attempting conversions every day at this public transport hub. Activities which were earlier carried out secretly are now being done openly. This has once again highlighted the issue of Christian conversion networks operating in the Panvel region. The wider question of religious sensitivity in public spaces has resurfaced.
