Two arrested in Shravasti (UP) for attempting religious conversion of Hindus through inducement

Shravasti (Uttar Pradesh) – In Bhayapurwa village of Shravasti district, Police arrested two persons, Rajesh Kumar and his cousin Ravi, on 9th November, 2025, for allegedly attempting to convert Hindus to another religion by offering inducements. Two other accused remain absconding. Both the arrested individuals reportedly have a criminal background.

According to police sources, the accused had organized a gathering in the village to impart Christian religious teachings to Hindus. Around 150 villagers attended the meeting, which was also attended by Christian missionary workers. During the gathering, the villagers were allegedly persuaded to convert collectively, with promises of housing, employment, and financial assistance.

Rajesh Kumar reportedly confessed that people were being enticed to change their faith with assurances of gifts such as jewellery, money, food grains, and other supplies.
