Pakistani warship docks in Bangladesh — first visit since 1971 war

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – For the first time since the 1971 war, a Pakistani warship has entered Bangladesh. PNS Saif, the Pakistani vessel, arrived in Chittagong through the Bay of Bengal on a four-day visit aimed at strengthening defence ties between the two nations. Bangladesh’s warship BNS Shadinota welcomed PNS Saif and escorted it into the port, where officials from both sides held discussions. (‘The enemy’s enemy is a friend’ — perhaps this explains the growing proximity; yet, one cannot forget that these two nations were once one, and Bangladesh had to endure Pakistan’s brutal atrocities over linguistic differences. – Editor)

Pakistan was the first country to recognise the Interim Government of Mohammad Yunus after the collapse of Sheikh Hasina’s Government in August 2024. Since then, Pakistan and Bangladesh have drawn increasingly closer, even as relations between India and Bangladesh continue to grow tense.
