Pak Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar blames army and Imran Khan’s govt over Taliban issue

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Against the backdrop of growing tensions with the Afghan Taliban, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar launched a scathing attack on former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government and the then military leadership. Dar stated that the 2021 Kabul visit by the then ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) chief Faiz Hameed was the root cause of the current surge in terrorist incidents within Pakistan.
He remarked, “The cup of tea he had there has cost us dearly. That one cup reopened the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and led the government of that time to release more than 100 notorious criminals from prison. These decisions unleashed a flood of terrorist attacks across the country, and the previous government is directly responsible for it.”
Dar’s statement comes at a time when armed clashes recently broke out between Afghanistan and Pakistan along the border. Following mediation by Qatar and Türkiye, both countries agreed to a ceasefire which remains in effect; however, tensions continue to simmer along the frontier.
