‘Bhagawadgeeta’ is the ‘Elixir of Wisdom’ : Chinese scholars

Beijing – Chinese scholars have called the Bhagawadgeeta the ‘elixir (amrut) of wisdom’ and a ‘brief history of Indian culture’. Praising the Bhagawadgeeta, they said it is a source of solutions to the spiritual and material problems of people in the modern world. They expressed these views at a symposium titled ‘Confluence of Indian Philosophical Traditions’. The event was organised by the Indian Embassy.

The keynote speaker at the symposium was 88-year-old Prof. Zhang Baosheng. He has translated the Bhagawadgeeta into Chinese. Prof. Zhang called the Gita ‘India’s philosophical encyclopedia and spiritual epic’. Even today, the Bhagawadgeeta has a huge impact on Indian life. Prof. Zhang said that while touring India from 1984 to 1986, he experienced the presence of Deity Shrikrushna everywhere.

The Gita is a dialogue on the ancient battlefield : Prof. Wang Zhi-cheng

Prof. Wang Zhi-cheng, Director of the Oriental Philosophy Research Center, said that the Gita is a dialogue on the ancient Indian battlefield 5,000 years ago. This dialogue is still a guide to solving the complexities and anxieties of modern life. He mentioned that Karma Yoga, Samkhya Yoga and Bhakti Yoga in the Gita are guides to the modern life.

Studying Indian philosophy is essential : Prof. Yu Long Yu

Yu Longyu, a professor at the Center for Indian Studies at Shenzhen University, said that Indian philosophy and cultural traditions are useful for study and Chinese scholars should absorb them with faith.
