New Delhi – According to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 27,721 murder cases were registered in India in 2023, which is 2.8% less than in 2022; however, crimes against Scheduled Tribes increased by 28% during the same period. Cybercrimes also saw an increase of 31.2%. 86,420 such cases were registered in 2023. In 2022, the number was 65,893. Also, crimes against women in the capital Delhi increased by 0.4%. In terms of numbers, the number of crimes against women in Delhi was 4,45,000 in 2022. It increased to 4,48,211 in 2023.
The National Crime Records Bureau explained that in 2022, 28,522 murder cases were registered in the country, which decreased to 27,721 in 2023. That is, a decline of 2.8% was observed.

Primary causes of murders
According to the report, in 2023, the highest number of murders were committed due to disputes. 9,209 such incidents were recorded. This was followed by 3,458 murders due to personal enmity and 1,890 murders for some gains. Crimes against Scheduled Tribes increased by 28.8%. In 2022, there were 10,064 cases, which increased to 12,960 in 2023. The crime rate in this category also increased from 9.6% in 2022 to 12.4% in 2023.
