After Nepal, thousands of ‘Gen-Z’ youth protest in Peru !

Protests against corruption and pension reforms

(Gen-Z refers to the generation born between 1996 and 2010)

Lima (Peru) – Following Nepal, Peru has seen thousands of ‘Gen-Z’ youth take to the streets to protest government policies. On September 27, youth in the capital Lima chanted slogans and demonstrated against President Dina Boluarte. Police used tear gas and mild lathicharge to control the situation, prompting some demonstrators to throw stones.

The protests began on September 20, following a change in the pension system. New regulations require everyone in Peru over the age of 18 to join a pension fund, which has been strongly opposed by young people. In addition, there is longstanding public discontent with President Boluarte and the parliament.
