Kabul (Afghanistan) – In the series of powerful earthquakes that struck Afghanistan, 2,200 people lost their lives while more than 3,600 were injured. During rescue operations, due to the Taliban’s cultural and religious restrictions, even 36 hours after the quakes, affected women could not receive proper aid. As a result, many injured women remained trapped under rubble, and some even lost their lives.

Other shocking details !

1. The Taliban had already barred women from pursuing medical education and from participating in public work. This has created a severe shortage of women doctors and female rescue workers, especially in rural areas.

2. Even when male rescuers felt pity, they would try to pull women out of the rubble only by tugging at their clothes, to avoid touching their skin. In such situations, it often became impossible to rescue women, leading to their deaths.

What are the restrictions ?

The Taliban have enforced Sharia law in Afghanistan. According to this law, no unrelated man can touch a woman. Doing so is considered haram (against Islam) and a sin. Because of this, women are being left trapped under debris.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Why do those who say ‘Hinduism is anti-women’ remain silent when Muslim women are being pushed to death because of Sharia ?
  • Will Hindu girls who fall into the trap of ‘love jihad’ and convert, believing the claim that ‘Islam is the religion of humanity’, at least now learn a lesson ?
