Damage caused by the earthquake

Jalalabad (Afghanistan) – Afghanistan has been rocked by five earthquakes in a single night, including a magnitude 6.0 earthquake with an estimated 800 people killed and 2,500 injured. The quake struck at around 11:45 am on 31st August. According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was 27 km northeast of Jalalabad and 8 km deep. Two more aftershocks measuring 4.5 and 5.2 on the Richter scale struck just 20 minutes after the first quake. After that, tremors were felt at 3 and 5 am. The death toll is expected to rise as buildings collapsed in many places due to these tremors. The Taliban Government has launched an immediate relief operation and relief teams have been sent from the capital Kabul and other provinces.

In connection with this natural disaster, Indian Prime Minister Modi has assured all possible assistance from China to Afghanistan.
