Death Toll to 80 in Cloudburst Incidents in 3 States in last 3 Weeks in India

New Delhi – In the heavy rains at Bharmour in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh (HP), eleven devotees gone for Manimahesh yatra, have died in landslides. Three out of them are from Punjab, one from Uttar Pradesh and five from Chamba. Two bodies are yet to be identified. The deaths have been caused due to stones falling off the mountain and lack of Oxygen as reported by the administrative officers. About 3,000 devotees are trapped in Bharmour. The incidents of landslides in this region took the lives of seven devotees last week. The incidents of cloudbursts in three States in the last 21 days have taken the lives of more than 80 devotees.

Heavy rains in Uttarakhand

1.  Cloudbursts at many places in Uttarakhand

On the night of 28.08.2025, incidents of cloudbursts occurred at Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Tehri Garhwal districts. Many people are missing. More than 70 people have been rescued from the affected areas in Rudraprayag. Eight labourers, including 4 Nepali and 4 locals, are caught under the mounds of rubble.

2. Route to Badrinath Yatra flooded

The rivers Alaknanda and Mandakini in Rudraprayag are flowing above danger levels. The highway to Badrinath is under deluge resulting in stoppage of traffic between Srinagar – Rudraprayag.

3. A bridge on a road in Lavera village in Kedarnath valley has flown away in the strong waterflow.

4. Many families are feared to be trapped under rubble in Chamoli.

Floods in Punjab taken six lives so far

Some of the districts in Punjab viz. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Fazilka and Kapurthala are caught in deluge. More than 250 villages in the region are under 5-15 ft water; taking lives of six persons so far and 3 reported to be missing.

Other important incidents

1. A large part of bridge on Tangri river has flown away at Panchkula in Haryana

2. In Odisha, 100 villages are under water on the fifth consecutive day.

3. Water is flowing on the highway in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

4. Severe rain in Chhattisgarh has led to shifting of more than 2000 people from eight districts to rescue camps. In the State, 200 houses have collapsed.

Shri Vaishnodevi Yatra halted on the fourth consecutive day !

Shri Vaishnodevi Teertha-kshetra Mandal has advised pilgrims against travel till further instructions and to follow the directions and orders officially issued by Teerth-kshetra mandal and local administration. Incident of cloudburst on the route of Shri Vaishnodevi Yatra at Katara on 26.08.2025 resulted in landslides and death of 35 people while 23 people were seriously injured.

In Jammu-Kashmir, 115 years record was broken, 41 died due to rain 

Constant heavy rain in J-K has broken a 115 years old record. So far 41 people have died due to rain. Instructions have been issued to keep all schools closed till further notice. Water of the Zelam river has crossed the danger level; therefore, a warning of floods has been issued in south Kashmir.
