“Bangladeshis can live in Assam because they are human too” : Syeda Hameed

Statement by former Planning Commission member Syeda Hameed

New Delhi – The Assam Government is being unjust to Muslims by labelling them as ‘Bangladeshis’. But what is wrong if they are Bangladeshis? They are human beings too. The Earth is vast, so Bangladeshis can live here as well. Saying that infiltrators are depriving native citizens of their rights is misleading and anti-humanitarian, claimed social activist Syeda Hameed in Guwahati. Syeda was a member of the Planning Commission during former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s tenure. The Assam Government is currently working to clear illegal encroachments from Government land and deport infiltrators who entered from Bangladesh. Syeda made this statement in response to that action. She is on a visit to Assam, accompanied by individuals like advocate Prashant Bhushan, Harsh Mander, and Jawahar Sircar. (All of them are born Hindus, but their actions appear overtly anti-Hindu and anti-national – Editor)

“Allah created this land for humans”

Syeda Hameed said that Allah created this Earth for human beings, not for animals. Driving someone off land they stand upon is a path to destruction for Muslims. Everyone must come together to preserve India’s composite culture.

Prashant Bhushan alleged that Muslims in India are being forcibly deported to Bangladesh. Under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Government is carrying out illegal actions, evicting people from homes and demolishing those homes. Commenting on the group’s visit, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this group from Delhi is attempting to malign a lawful anti-encroachment campaign by branding it a “humanitarian crisis.” Our fight against encroachment will not stop. No amount of propaganda or pressure will prevent us from protecting our land and our culture.

Editorial perspective

Thousands of Hindus were driven out of their homes and their own state overnight by Muslims in Kashmir. Loudspeaker threats from mosques forced them to flee. Those who stayed behind were killed by jihadi Muslims. Was Syeda Hameed unaware of this when she made her statement ? Even today, Hindus are not allowed to live there peacefully. Why does Syeda not go to Kashmir and make the same declaration there ?
