Accused of mocking the concept of ‘Ram Rajya’

Guwahati (Assam) – The Crime Branch of the Police has registered an FIR against journalist and YouTuber Abhisar Sharma. This action was taken in view of a video he had circulated on YouTube. Abhisar Sharma in his video mocked Assam government and Central government. “These two governments have stayed in power by polarising Hindus and Muslims,” he said. He had further mocked the concept of ‘Ram Rajya’.

1. The FIR alleges that Sharma’s video incites religious sentiments. The police have registered an FIR under Sections 152 (sedition), 196 and 197 of the Indian Code of Justice.

2. Alok Barua, a 23-year-old youth from Guwahati, had filed a complaint against journalist Abhisar Sharma. Complaint states that he had accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of indulging in religious politics and also, he has disrespected the concept of ‘Ram Rajya’.

3. The complaint says that Abhisar Sharma has made this statement to defame the government and create enmity among the people. These statements may disturb peace and harmony in the society.

4. Police said Sharma’s allegations relate to provisions that threaten India’s sovereignty and unity.
